How to make a business card holder from scrapbook cardstock

Here is a quick project that only requires some patterned cardstock from the scrapbooking section of your local craft store, some scissors, and some glue or double-stick tape.

From these, you can create a stylish business card holder to sit on your desk or sales counter.

First, download the Business Card Holder Template, and use it as a pattern to cut the cardstock. (If your paper has a decorative or scalloped edge, be sure it is the long edge that appears at the very bottom of the template page.)

Next, cut a second piece of cardstock, this time only including the two sections marked with the Xes on the template. (This time, any scalloped/decorative edge should run along the short edge at the top of the template.)

Fold along all the dotted lines shown in the template. The folds go different directions. On the larger piece, if the patterned side is facing DOWN, the folds are as follows (going from top to bottom):

  • Tiny fold at the “tab”: mountain fold.
  • First long fold: mountain fold.
  • Two next long folds (near the side tabs): Valley folds.
  • All the side tabs are valley folds.

If you position the smaller piece so that the pattern is facing DOWN, its one fold is a valley fold.

Your pieces should now look similar to the picture below (except I had not yet folded the side tabs on mine):

Use glue or double-stick tape to attach the two wrong sides of the pieces of cardstock together. Align them carefully.  Try to keep them partially folded as you stick them together.

Then, leaving until last the long, thin tabs in the middle of the sides, tape or glue the side tabs over each other, to form a little box:

Last, attach the longest tab to the underside of the box, to help the box stay upright and stable.

Voila! Your business card holder is complete. Of course, you can add any embellishments you desire: monogram letters, ribbon trims, stickers, fancy punched shapes, etc.
